The Arthur Wind Farm is situated near the town of Arthur, Ontario, approximately 15 kilometres west of Orangeville, Ontario, and has a wind power capacity of up to 10 MW once construction will be completed.
The Arthur Wind Farm Project was awarded one SOC with a 20-year term on March 2, 2007, by the OPA for an aggregate of 10 MW, it was subsequently awarded an Advanced RESOP price increase in 2009. Project construction is anticipated to occur in mid 2010. Commencement of electricity generation is anticipated in the third quarter of 2010.
The wind farm is owned and operated by the Arthur Wind Farm Limited Partnership, a wholly owned subsidiary of FC Wind Energie GmbH. For further information please download our Arthur Fact Sheet.
Construction and the Environment
The applicable guidelines that are being followed are the "Environmental Impact Statement Guidelines for Screenings of Inland Wind Farms under the CEAA" and the "Guide to Environmental Assessment Requirements for Electricity Projects (March 2001)" provided by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment. The project is classified as a "Category B Project" under the provincial process.
A zoning by-law to permit a 10 MW wind farm has been approved by the local municipality and a site plan development agreement has been signed.
Project Status
Schneider Power Inc. is excited to announce that construction of the Arthur Wind Farm is scheduled to begin on May 24th, 2010. The wind farm will be located on 348 acres of private farmland on Line 2, between Eliza Street and Sideroad 3.
During construction of the wind farm, local residents may experience temporary traffic delays on roads as equipment and turbine parts are delivered to the site. We will make every effort to warn local residents of upcoming traffic disruptions so that they may plan to take alternate routes.
We want to ensure that the construction of the Arthur Wind Farm poses as little inconvenience to Arthur residents as possible. If you have a complaint or concern related to construction activities please contact us and we will do our best to resolve problems efficiently.
The construction of a wind farm requires the use of very large equipment and the entire process is quite a sight. If you wish to view the installation please stay a safe distance from construction activities and refrain from entering private property unless permission has been obtained.
Schneider Power would like to thank the community of Arthur and the Township of Wellington North for your continued support of this project; together we are one step closer to a sustainable energy future.
